While Phenisile Mongqawa only had one winner on the day, his consistency in his other races saw him claim Leg 1 of the Work Riders’ Challenge on the Classic track at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Mongqawa finished second behind Sam Mosia last season and this time got off to the ideal start in this three-leg competition by accumulating 32 points which gave him the R5,000 prize for the victory.
He finished just two points head of Anathi Feni who was the only rider to have two winners at the meeting.
In third place on 28 points is Joe Gwingwizha.
Mosia did not get off to the kind of start he may was hoping for and finished the day on just 13 points. That leaves him with a lot of work to do if he is to claim the R20,000 first prize offered to the winner of the Challenge.
