Mitchley gets off the mark

August 2022

Kelly Mitchley on Friday made her first appearance in the winner’s enclosure as a fully fledged trainer.

She took the honours in the card opener at Fairview with Klaserie. Ryan Munger was in the saddle.

“I almost cried,” said Mitchley after the race.

“I was hoping she (Klaserie) would finish in the top four today, but she surprised me. She absolutely … wow … She looked amazing in the parade ring.

“I can’t thank Suzette and Basie Viljoen enough for this – for giving me a chance with some of their horses. I’m speechless.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me and helped me to get this far.”
