Marsiac set for more success

Marsiac can make it back-to-back wins for Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls in the Celebrating Venetias 30 Years In Training Novices' Hurdle at Hereford on Tuesday.

A decent fourth behind subsequent Cheltenham winner De Temps En Temps on his rules debut at Uttoxeter, the four-year-old then won what looked a strong maiden hurdle at Aintree, beating another six-figure purchase in Big Ticket by a length.

Big Ticket did that form no harm by finishing second again at Ascot on Saturday and with that in mind, Marsiac looks capable of defying the mandatory winner's penalty in novice company before stepping up in class later in the season.

Four Springs is of huge interest in the 2009 Grand National Winner Mon Mome Novices' Hurdle.

The Berkshire gelding was a 22-length winner of his sole start in the Irish point-to-point field, subsequently changing hands for E82,000.

Point-to-point form is often hard to quantify, but the runner-up Party In The Park has recently gone close in a bumper at Newcastle and the continued excellent form of trainer Ben Pauling's string means plenty will be expected of Four Springs first time out.

Harry Derham is another trainer who has his horses in rude health and his Recoded catches the eye in the Join The Hereford Racing Club 2026 Handicap Hurdle.

Bought out of Lorna Fowler's yard in Ireland, this seven-year-old filled the runner-up spot on his British introduction at Huntingdon little over a year ago but then disappointed at Plumpton and was off the track for exactly a year.

He underwent wind surgery during the intervening period and while he ran out of steam after making much of the running on his recent comeback at Warwick, there were definite signs of promise in his performance and that run should tee him up nicely for his latest assignment.

Southwell punters are advised to put their faith in Nazare in the Join Southwell Golf Club Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old won once and finished second twice in three bumper starts, so it was perhaps slightly disappointing that he was unable to get seriously competitive in his first two starts over hurdles.

However, that meant he entered the handicap arena off a mark of 104 at Market Rasen recently and while he still looked a bit rough around the edges in terms of his jumping, he ultimately won with a little in hand and a 5lb rise does not look insurmountable for a horse who still has plenty of room for improvement.

One Million Dreams is the pick in the Sky Sports Racing Virgin 535 Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old caught the eye making late headway to finish third on his stable and handicap debut at Fakenham last month, his first start over obstacles since the spring.

With Sean Bowen on his back again, he could well take a big step forward and can make light of top-weight in what does not look a great race.

The Owen Burrows-trained Ritaal is rated the best bet on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

The daughter of Showcasing was no match for a more experienced Shadwell runner when picking up the silver medal on her introduction at Wolverhampton three weeks ago but will not need to improve drastically on that effort to go one better in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Maiden Fillies' Stakes. - Press Association
