Jack Milner: Trainer Vaughan Marshall should be back in the winner’s enclosure at Kenilworth on Monday.
Trainer Vaughan Marshall would have been delighted with the performances of Linebacker and Seeking The Stars who finished first and second respectively in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas at Greyville on Sunday.
Marshall could also provide the banker of the day at Kenilworth on Monday when he saddles Picture The Moment in Race 4, a Maiden Handicap over 1400m.
The three-year-old Visionaire gelding is the highest rated runner but as this is a handicap, he will have to give at least 4kg to the opposition. He has run three successive seconds two over 1400m – the first at Kenilworth and the second at Durbanville – and one over 1200m at Kenilworth.
Marshall seems to have found the ideal race for his charge because it is not particularly strong. While Picture The Moment has been running in races with an average merit rating in the early-to-mid seventies, in this race, it is just 64.
Marshall has engaged Louis Mxothwa, who has ridden the gelding twice, for the ride. They have the advantage of jumping from No 1 draw, which is ideal over this course and distance.
Picture The Moment is likely to go off at a short price so while the odds might not look attractive for a straight-up bet, he is worth taking in an All-To-Come bet and as a banker in all the exotic bets.
