Marcus to be boss in the Cape

March 2023

Last week's return to Hollywoodbets Durbanville proved tricky for punters and favourite backers in particular, as just a solitary market leader landed the spoils on the day.

Tuesday's seven-race card at the country course, however, looks easier to navigate and bettors have several routes to take to potential big wins!

Leading rider Keagan de Melo rode three winners at Durbanville last week, including a double to close the meeting, and looks likely to pick back up where he left off by winning Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1250m.

He partners Adam Marcus-trained Nile The Boss who stayed on to finish a promising third on debut over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. The filly found some betting support last time to go off at 15-2. With natural improvement expected and the extra 250m likely to suit, this daughter of Potala Palace should open her account at the second run under in-form De Melo.

The main danger looks to be Double Grand Slam from the Justin Snaith yard. She made her debut in the same race as Nile The Boss and actually went off a weak 4-1 favourite.

Nile The Boss finished third with Double Grand Slam a further 1.25 lengths back in fourth.

So, it comes down to which of the pair will make the better improvement. Snaith’s charge has the advantage of the better draw, No 4 against No 9, which is important at Durbanville as they race around the turn, but Nile The Boss produced the faster finish and looks more likely to benefit from the additional distance.

Richard Fourie will be aboard Double Grand Slam.

Brett Crawford-trained Zoomie (Race 2) and Snaith-trained Zippy Over (Race 4) line up in their respective contests with solid recent form and have strong winning credentials after last-start seconds.
