Marco loses out on top ride

Jockey Marco van Rensburg looked to have the standout bet in at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday where he was carded to ride Micke’s Bomb for trainer Fanie Bronkhorst.

Sadly, due to a lack of transport, Bronkhorst has had to scratch all three of his runners. .

However, hopefully Van Rensburg can provide punters with some decent each-way value in Race 2, where he will ride Telio for trainer Robbie Hill in this Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m.

She has had many chances to shed her maiden but there are a couple of factors that could do the trick this time. She had Cattleya Summer and then Green Chili behind her when finishing up close earlier in her career and in retrospect, should have won straight after. Both mentioned have gone to win twice since.

Telio lost her way when tried over 1600m but was also most disappointing in a very weak field last time out when reverting to a more suitable 1400m, but that was on the Polytrack and she did not appear to take to the surface.

This time she drops to 1200m, will have blinkers fitted and will not have to navigate a turn. The stronger handling she will get from Van Rensburg should also be a telling factor.
