HUDOO MAGIC WINS CHARITY MILE

Hudoo Magic, trained by Brett Crawford and ridden by Muzi Yeni, won the Grade 2 Peermont Emperors Charity Mile at Turffontein on Saturday.

The five-year-old son of Choisir was well supported from 25-1 on Thursday to go off at 6-1 and was perfectly ridden by Yeni. 

Hudoo Magic beat home Charles by 0.75 who finished a nose in front of Youncantshurrylove with another 0.70 lengths back to Tree Tumbo, the Sean Tarry runner who got in as the first reserve following the withdrawal of Infamous Fox.

The R150,000 cheque to the winning charity went to the Lesedi Programme – Electrical, who were represented by singer Zahara.   The R100,000 for second was won by the Lesedi Programme – Air Conditioning, represented by Jazz and Afro-pop singer Judith Sephuma, with the R75,000 for went to Animal Allies Rescue, supported by comedian Shampoonaiza.

The other 13 charities went away with cheques for R50,000. 

The Peermont Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup, presented by BSA, produced the best finish of the day as MK’s Pride came out best in a head-bobbing dual with favourite War Of Athena. MK’s Pride was well supported to go off at 28-10 with War Of Athena at 14-10. 

Just 0.45 lengths back came Tarry-trained Flying Carpet with 6.50 lengths back to Afternoon Tea in fourth. 

MK’s Pride was ridden by champion jockey Warren Kennedy and trained by Paul Peter. The son of Willow Magic is the first and only horse owned by Mike Nkale. Speaking after the race Mr Nkale thanked trainer Paul Peter and jockey Warren Kennedy adding that this horse is not only his, but that “It’s the pride of the nation”.
