Lukaku anxious to seal loan deal
with Mourinho’s luckless Roma
Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal from Chelsea to Roma was still not settled over the weekend but has moved closer to becoming a reality before the close of the transfer window this week.
The Belgian international striker is not wanted at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea had loaned him out to Inter Milan last term and now he wants a chance to play under Jose Mourinho.
It would be a major boost to Roma’s hopes of catapulting themselves up among the Serie A contenders this new season after flirting on the fringes in the last campaign, although they did reach the Europa League final.
Some of the money earned from that successful campaign in Europe will go towards a 7.5-million euro fee.
Lukaku netted 10 Serie A goals last season and played for Inter in the Champions League final against Manchester City but found himself unwanted in the off-season.
His arrival at Roma cannot come quick enough after Mourinho’s side suffered a 1-2 loss at Verona on Saturday. That followed a 2-2 draw at home with Salernitana in their opening game of the new Italian league.
