Let It Be Said it’s all about Snaith

May 2025

Jack Milner

Trainer Justin Snaith has 15 runners to race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday and it would come as a shock if he were unable to come away with a winner or two – at least.

The best of his runners appears to be Let It Be Said, who lines up in Race 8, the Perfectly Placed A Stakes over 1400m.

He is one of those rare horses who is equally at home at both Kenilworth and Hollywoodbets Durbanville and the three-year-old son of Vercingetorix still has a lot more to offer.

He has only run 10 times for three wins, five second places and a fourth but while he started off his racing career quite well, it was taken to another level since he was gelded in September last year.

At that point he had just won his maiden, beating highly regarded Garrix by 0.50 lengths. Two days later he had the surgery performed and returned to racing some two months later. He ran a close-up fourth on his return but since then Let It Be Said has been in prolific form.

He was a fast-finishing 1.25-length second behind O’Tenikwa over 1200m and was then put over 1400m. After another second, in which he was beaten 2.25 lengths by Sail The Seas, he went on to win his next two starts, the first over 1400m at Kenilworth and the second over 1600m at Durbanville.

His last start was in the Grade 3 Variety Club Stakes where he stayed on well to finish runner-up, 1.50 lengths behind his old foe, a now gelded Garrix.

Richard Fourie has only ridden him twice – in the second place behind O’Tenikwa and for his win over Fatal Gem at Durbanville – but he will be back in the irons for this ride and from a decent No 5 draw, and if Fourie can get him to settle early, he should prove hard to beat and add another win to his growing record.

Snaith’s good day could get going as early as Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200m, where he sends out Gold Giboski. This son of Gold Standard showed promise on debut when finishing fourth over 1100m at this venue on 14 April behind All The Rage.

That was an encouraging introduction, and with expected improvement, he looks capable of going close. Jockey Craig Zackey retains the ride.

In Race 5, the Cape Racing C Stakes over 1600m, Landotherisingsun can make his presence felt. The Danon Platina gelding impressed with a solid maiden win last time out, a performance that should boost his confidence. With further progress, he could well follow up with Fourie up.

Beer With The Boys was slightly disappointing last time when he was expected to win but did run on well enough to finish a 1.25-length second behind Wehaveasituation. The four-year-old Silvano gelding was reported to have a mouth injury so perhaps that run is best ignored and he should be given another when he lines up in Race 6, the Jazz Syndicate D Stakes over 1600m.

He has only run nine times for one win and four places, but he did begin racing as a late three-year-old and after two disastrous starts was gelded. That seemed to do the trick and since then he has been very consistent.

It is worth noting that his record over 1600m and Kenilworth is excellent, with a win, a 0.50-length behind Azzurri and second last time in his three runs over track and trip.

He also has the advantage of jumping from No 1 draw and as he likes to sit just off the pace, that barrier position is ideal.

He does have 64kg to carry but he has earned that weight and Fourie will be able to get him home at the head of the field.
