Jozi Rising: The 2025 Betway Summer Cup Celebrates Theme and Partners

August 2025

Johannesburg, South Africa — The Betway Summer Cup returns to Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 29 November 2025, with a fresh theme and renewed purpose, Jozi Rising, unveiled at LevelThree’s panoramic rooftop location in Kramerville on Tuesday, 19 August 2025.

Originally named the Johannesburg Handicap and inaugurated on 15 June 1887, the Betway Summer Cup is Johannesburg’s oldest and most storied race and the marquee meeting of the 4Racing calendar. As Gauteng’s premier race day, hosted at Turffontein, a racecourse almost as old as the City itself, the Betway Summer Cup is worth R6 million, adding to its prestige by making it the richest race in the country.

The event is proudly headlined by Betway, with support from TAB, Racing Today, Racing 240, New Turf Carriers and BET International, — all committed to enhancing the race day experience and broadening its reach.

“Jozi Rising is about more than racing — it’s about celebrating the people and energy that make this city unique,” said Patrick Duff, CEO of 4Racing. “As the Summer Cup evolves year on year, we are increasing our focus on inclusivity, community connection, and a lifestyle-meets-sport experience that welcomes all. We’re working hard to create an event that feels welcoming, exciting, and true to the character of the City of Johannesburg. This year’s theme, Jozi Rising, is designed to reflect a spirit of innovation, resilience, pride and endless possibility.”

“Betway is proud to continue our partnership with 4Racing and the Summer Cup,” said Jonathan Blumberg, Head of Customer Experience at Betway. “Our country has a long and rich history with horse racing and we see this event as an opportunity to continue connecting with fans, supporting the sport, and contributing to a day that reflects the vibrancy of the City.”

Lifestyle and broadcast heavyweight, BET Africa (DStv channel 129) has joined Betway, New Turf Carriers, TAB, Racing 240, Racing Today and Ticketpro as event partners for this year’s event. “The Betway Summer Cup is a celebration of African excellence, creativity, and vibrant culture—values that are deeply embedded in BET’s DNA. Our audience thrives on premium entertainment experiences that fuse fashion, music, and lifestyle, and this partnership is a perfect reflection of that spirit. We’re proud to be part of an event that not only honours tradition but also reimagines it for a new generation,” said Monde Twala, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Paramount Africa and Lead, BET International.

While the full undercard will be announced in the coming weeks, attendees can look forward to competitive race card anchored by the R6 million main event, a mix of entertainment and hospitality options and Johannesburg’s best end of year party!

General Access tickets start at R100, while full hospitality packages start at R2250 per person. The Betway Summer Cup is perfect for corporate year-end parties and businesses are encouraged to book their packages soon, before hospitality areas reach capacity. Tickets are available via Ticketpro at www.ticketpro.co.za.
