Inside track suits Riverstown

After a few disappointing starts Paul Peter’s charge bounced back to his best last time and finally notched up his fourth win when easily defeating Full Velocity by 2.25 lengths over 1200m up the Vaal straight.  

He showed excellent pace in that Progress Plate and despite hanging out late, the five-year-old Byword gelding was always in control.

After two successive runs in Plate races, Riverstown reverts to handicap company when he will contest Race 9, a MR 104 Handicap over 1450m.

The five-year-old son of Byword has a decent record over this course and distance with two wins, two seconds and a fourth from five starts.

Gavin Lerena won on Riverstown last time and he is back in the irons for this race.

Lerena could also strike in Race 5, a Maiden Plate over 1450m, where he rides Sling And Arrows for Candice Dawson. 

Slings And Arrows is out of top mare Happy Archer and is the best weighted runner in field.

The Trippi gelding will not only be going around the turn for the first time, but will also be trying a little further on this occasion. His three previous runs were all over 1160m on the Standside track.

Slings And Arrows ran poorly on debut but he was then gelded and has come back to run a third and second respectively in his next two starts.

However, on breeding, this distance should be right up his street as both his sire and dam were at their best over this sort of distance.
