Impressive Manyeleti to notch up another victory

November 2025

PLEASE NOTE:

Tuesday's Vaal race meeting has been relocated to Turffontein, on the Inside track. The Vaal received nearly 100 mm of rainfall on Monday and remains waterlogged, while Turffontein recorded only 0.5 mm.

At this stage, the Turffontein Inside track is raceable.

Race times remain unchanged.

Distance changes: Races 4, 5, and 6 - 1450m

Race 9 - 1000m

It is often difficult to assess how good a horse may be based on a debut winning run but there are times when a performance leaves pundits wide-eyed.

It is not that the horse ends up a runaway winner by many lengths, because that could even be achieved by a moderate runner taking on a bunch of hacks. It is the quality of the victory that counts and there was a lot to like about the manner in which Manyeleti made her introduction to competitive racing.

The three-year-old daughter of Danon Platina made her first appearance over 1000m at the Vaal on 4 November and went off second favourite at 9-4. Craig Zackey had the Lucky Houdalakis-trained runner sitting off the pace but when he asked her to win the race she just found a superb burst speed, winning comfortably by three lengths.

Here are some relevant statistics. There were three races over 1000m run at the meeting and her time of 56.36 seconds was by far the fastest of the trio. Her final 400m to finish was completed in an excellent time of 22.90 seconds.

While she beat Plumbago Park by three lengths, there was another 5.40 lengths back to the third runner and another 2.80 lengths to the fourth-placed runner.

Manyeleti makes her second appearance in Race 7 on the Inside track at Turffontein on Thursday and despite the change of track, she stands out as the best bet on the card and a banker in all bets. This race is now around the turn but she is nicely drawn in gate No 4

She contests a MR 92 Handicap over 1000m and Craig Zackey has stuck with this filly, despite having to put up 0.5kg overweight. Nevertheless, she still comes in with just 54kg on her back and the fact Houdalakis has put her straight into a handicap at this level give an indication at how high he rates her ability.
