Have some variety at Kenilworth

July 2024

Jack Milner

A Cape A Stakes over 1100m heads up the card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday and Future Variety brings feature-race form into the race.

This Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Var three-year-old last lined up in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes over 1200m in February.

He took off late, but the line came to soon for him to collar Thunderstruck who since then has gone on to win the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint at Turffontein before being retired.

In the Diadem Stakes, Future Variety ran by himself on the outside after landing a wide draw and had no cover, so might have been a bit unlucky not to get up.

He has run three seconds in a row since the start of the year and must have a win to come, especially as he will have matured.

Race 7 is run over 1100m and while he is not the best weighted runner, racing off a merit rating of 118, based on his last run he could be better than that.

However, he has not raced since the Diadem Stakes in February which is a slight concern but the last time he had a lay off he came back well from that break.

Aldo Domeyer takes the ride.

This is a decent field and the two runners who looks his main dangers are Meu Capitano with Richard Fourie up and Questioning.

Vaughan Marshall-trained Questioning is the best weighted runner and has improved since fitted with blinkers three runs back. JP van der Merwe takes the ride.

Favourite backers could go well in Race 2, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1400m, where Fourie rides Pentolina for Marshall.

Fourie was disappointed things did not work out for the daughter of One World last time but he will be champing at the bit to set the record straight.
