Harbour Lake to take Pertemps prize

November 2024

Harbour Lake made a very pleasing return to action at Aintree recently and looks one to keep on side in another Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle qualifier at Market Rasen.

Alan King's charge finished off last season with a couple of solid placed efforts in competitive handicaps at Cheltenham and Haydock, which clearly boosted his confidence following an aborted crack at novice chasing.

In Liverpool earlier this month, he travelled smoothly throughout under a confident ride from Tom Cannon before coming through strongly to get the better of in-form favourite Guard The Moon, as that pair pulled well clear of the rest.

With ground conditions still suitable, a 6-point rise up the ratings may not be enough to stop Harbour Lake from following up.

Tripoli Flyer will take all the beating in the Pertemps Network "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle now he has a run over timber under his belt.

Fergal O'Brien's five-year-old had some smart form in bumpers last season, claiming a notable scalp at Lingfield when beating Kingston Pride, who hacked up in his next bumper and has already struck over hurdles this term.

The son of Getaway was then second to stablemate Horaces Pearl in a red-hot Grade Two contest at Aintree, with subsequent jumping winners such as Valgrand, Sorceleur and No Questions Asked just in behind.

Tripoli Flyer did nothing wrong on his debut over obstacles but just could not reel in the race-fit Jurancon at Chepstow.

Apple Away is not always the easiest horse to catch right but she could be well suited by the make-up of the Pertemps Network Bud Booth Mares' Chase.

Having blown away the cobwebs at Kelso last month, Lucinda Russell's six-time winner is at her best when able to settle into a smooth rhythm towards the head of affairs and will be a tough nut to crack late on if that happens here.

Dan Skelton's Great Fleet can make a winning debut under rules in the Pertemps Network Open National Hunt Flat Race.

He was bought for £60,000 after finishing second in an Irish point-to-point behind Sober Glory and that form was franked when the victor landed a Chepstow bumper in fine style.

Skelton has several strong fancies early on at Wetherby and the highly-regarded Let It Rain could well complete a treble for the yard in the Watch Race Replay At Racing TV Mares' Novices' Hurdle.

The five-year-old landed a couple of nice bumper wins last winter, including a Listed event at Ascot, and almost certainly met another good one when second to French Ship at Chepstow on her first outing over obstacles.

Any Biscuits appeals in Hereford's HCD Ltd Handicap Hurdle after returning from a lengthy lay-off with an encouraging runner-up effort at Stratford.

Harry Derham's charge was understandably a bit fresh early on and just got caught out when the tempo quickened in the latter stages, but he kept on gamely once getting going again.

A winner at Market Rasen and Exeter prior to his spell on the sidelines, the seven-year-old should now be spot on for this outing. - Press Association
