There are four feature races at Scottsville on Sunday, including the Listed Kings Cup, rescheduled from last Sunday’s abandoned Greyville meeting.
Bettors should start the day off with a bang as Grinkov looks hard to beat in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200m.
Grinkov was expected to win his second start after a promising debut but was thrown in the deep end when running in two Western Cape features where he found rising stars Cliff Top and We’re Jamming too good.
The form of these races has been of high quality with multiple winners coming out of them, including Sales race winner Certainly who finished 1.50 length behind Grinkov.
Amarandi, who contests the second race on the card, has not run to her best at Greyville but has a big chance of making a winning return at Scottsville. She has the best of the draws in this Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m, and should take advantage of mostly inexperienced individuals.
Visiting trainers could have the final word in the two Grade 3 races for three-year-olds, the Umzimkhulu Stakes for fillies and the Byerley Turk, both over 1400m.
Corne Spies could be the trainer to follow with Supreme Quest and William Robertson respectively.
Sean Tarry has been cleaning up in feature races recently and Full Velocity looks well placed in the Listed feature, the Kwa-Zulu-Natal Stakes over 1200m.
She needed her last race when well beaten behind Paul Peter’s crack filly Big Burn and is expected to show the strength of her form in no uncertain terms. Full Velocity looks the right one in the one feature and Shampompo Shampizi remains the pick in the Listed King’s Cup (Race 5) which was moved from last week due to inclement weather.
