Racing is on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday and punters would be wise to get in early as there looks to be some form bets in three of the first four races.
It starts off in Race 2, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1400m, with Opera Fan, who met winners on the Highveld in her last start. It is still early but the field she met looks to be progressive and the Horizon filly, who had fair sprint form prior that, has the best draw so could make a winning local debut in KwaZulu-Natal.
Opera Fan is trained by Paul Matchett whose yard is also having a solid season, and will be ridden by Muzi Yeni.
Things have been quiet for veteran trainer Dennis Bosch who last had a winner in February. But the opposition will have to pull out all stops to beat his youngster Pinetti in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1000m. The two-year-old has improved with each start and in his last time looked the likely winner but was tagged late by Position Of Power.
Pinetti shows good pace and boasts a finish which means that he could be hard to peg back on poly debut.
Cherry Oh Baby has proven costly to follow but should also take her turn. The lightly raced daughter of Danon Platina finished runner-up to high class campaigners such as Gerbera and Saxon Dynasty so was expected to beat a weak field last time. She jumped at restricted odds despite giving weight in a Maiden Handicap.
And it looked like the Mike and Matthew de Kock-trained chestnut filly was going to do it too after finishing second four times in a row, so much so that her rider took things a bit easy, after the filly cruised to lead tried to guide her to the wire instead of getting her to stretch. It didn’t work and she got caught by a light weight.
On paper at least, she does look hard to beat in Race 4, an Open Maiden over 1600m, and although she does jump from a wide gate, she meets a very weak bunch and should finally shed her maiden tag.
