Green light for Greyville Races 1 and 8

July 2025

Jack Milner

While sire Vercingetorix has been getting all the accolades recently, there is little wrong with the progeny of Gimmethegreenlight, who have also been making the mark on the current season.

At Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday, two sons of Gimmethegreenlight can top and tail the eight-race card.

Gotta Go Eddie, who runs for the father-and-son team of Mike and Mathew de Kock, should be ready to win in his second run after gelding. He lines up in Race 1, an Open Maiden over 1200m. It is a competitive heat, so there could still be value about his chances.

Gotta Go Eddie’s form lines are decent. He finished ahead of recent winners Alannah and George’s Magic when a promising second on debut. While slightly disappointing next time out he had excuses but more importantly, turned in a more solid effort after gelding looks ready to pick up a win.

He will be hard to beat as long as he takes to the Polytrack. Gotta Go Eddie is drawn in gate No 6 and has Sean Veale in the irons.

Gimmethegoodlife will have no issues with the Polytrack as he was originally trained in KwaZulu-Natal and has a win and a third place in his two runs on the surface.

He joined Tony Peter’s Turffontein yard in April and then returned to Hollywoodbets Greyville in June and ran out a comfortable winner over useful Position Of Power on the turf over 1200m. He did what was needed to win, and the three-point merit rating hike may not be enough to stop him from following up.

He should have no problem switching back to the Polytrack after winning his maiden over 1600m. He looks better suited to sprints and the return to 1200m should prove ideal for him.

He is beautifully drawn in gate No 2 and will have Gavin Lerena in the irons.
