Green Isle and Fourie stand out at Fairview

Richard Fourie is back at Fairview on Monday and has a full card of rides, seven for Alan Greeff and one from Jacques Strydom.

As is always the case, Fourie has a number of decent rides and is unlikely to go home without a winner.

The meeting is on the Polytrack and best of the bunch could be Green Isle, who lines up in Race 5, a MR 82 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.

This five-year-old Gimmethgreenlight mare joined Greeff from Eric Sands’ Western Cape yard in June as a one-time winner and was stuck into Classified Stakes over 1200m on the Polytrack.

As her earlier win had been over 1800m she was quite easy to back but scored a runaway win with S’manga Khumalo up, beating Lucky Spirit by 2.50 lengths.

She really appeared to have raised her game on the Polytrack and now returning to a middle distance looks very hard to oppose. Green Isle received just a two-point (1kg) penalty for that win and comes in carrying 55kg, 0.5kg less than last time.

Fizzy Bubbly has yet to win a race after 12 starts but is knocking on the door and can finally get it right in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1600m.

This William Longsword gelding has finished runner-up in all three of his Polytrack starts and should prove too strong for a weak field.

Trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen has made a reasonable start to the season and Fizzy Bubbly has finished second to Mister Fox, who has won a couple of races since then, as well as to Grand Allegro, who has run well a few times since, and Golden Grey, who has also won again.

All of that points to jockey Wayne Agrella, who has already had two winners this season, picking up another welcome victory.
