GREG CHEYNE RIDES BLOOM IN RACE 8
Jack Milner: Bloom in Race 8 stands out as the best bet on Friday’s Fairview card.
Saving the best to last is a statement that is often made but not a popular saying in racing.
The main reason is punters wish to already be in the money by then and are not relying on the infamous “get-out stakes” to refill their wallets.
But that does look to be the case at Fairview on Friday where the best bet on the card comes up in Race 8, a MR 68 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1300m on the Polytrack.
The three-year-old daughter of Soft Falling Rain quickened well to win on debut, and she looks heading for a few wins.
Admittedly, that form has not really worked out, but one can only beat what is put in front of you and she did that with ease.
Bloom was a bit unlucky not to remain undefeated when inexperience in the closing stages – she seemed to hang in when closing in on her rival – cost her supporters dearly.
Bloom is likely to be smarter this time and her jockey, Greg Cheyne, will be aware of any quirks in her attitude.
She is not all that well drawn and will have to jump from barrier No 9 in the 10-horse field, but coming up the outside of the field on the Polytrack is often a winning formula and very few do it better than Cheyne.
It would come as a might surprise if Greeff failed to win Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m, as he saddles four of the seven horses.
Dubula has been the model of consistency and has been runner-up in his last three starts. The last two were behind Marmara Sea who is unbeaten at Fairview and with a bit of luck, this could be Dubula’s day.
