Greeff runners to shine on the Polytrack

August 2023

Jack Milner

Once again, the decision has been taken to move Friday’s racemeeting at Fairview, originally scheduled for the turf, to the Polytrack.

Some 50mm has fallen over Port Elizabeth and that has left parts of the turf track unsafe for racing. As a result, Justin Snaith has withdrawn all of his runners from the meeting.

While times remain unchanged, the distances of Race 2 and 3 have changed from 1400m to 1300m.

There are two feature races on the card and first up is the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes over 1600m in Race 5.

With Snaith-trained Veronica Mars out of the picture, it could see another clash between old rivals Santa Therese and And We Danced. They have taken it in turns to beat one another and there is usually very little between the pair so it will take a brave punter to be confident on who will beat whom on this occasion.

Aldo Domeyer takes the ride on Alan Greeff-trained Santa Therese for the first time and perhaps it could be their day.

Santa Therese was 0.75 lengths ahead of stablemate Belle Of Belize with And We Danced 0.50 lengths further back when they last met on the Polytrack over 1600m. However, Sharon Kotzen-trained And We Dance was coming back from a break and may have been in need of the run. Louie Mxothwa rides again.

They all meet at the same weight differential so that does bring Belle Of Belize into the picture.

The unknown factor is Candice-Bass Robinson-trained Who Do You Love who will be having her first run on the Polytrack and needs to be included in bets.

Greeff and Gavin Smith could fight out Race 6, the Memorial Mile (Listed) over 1600m, with Grazinginthegrass and talented Khaya’s Hope with the former getting the nod on this surface.
