The competitive looking handicap over 1200m should be the highlight of the first East Cape meeting of the season.

The action in the new season starts on Monday with eight races on the Turf Track. It is a bit of a low-key meeting to get things started but the sprint race catches the eye.

Some decent sprinters will line up for the Play Soccer MR 96 Handicap, race 6 at 15:25.

It looks wide open and punters would surely be taking a chance if not going with the full field of 11 runners in the fourth leg of the Pick Six.

There are possible bankers in the earlier races but the last three races are very competitive.

The first race of the East Cape season is an Open Maiden over 1200m. Champion trainer Alan Greeff could straight away take the lead again as The Roaring Rocks is the horse to beat.

This is also the start of the Bipot. The race is off at 12:30.

Pyro Edition had two good runs for the Juan Nel stable. He is ready to win the second race, the first leg of the Place Accumulator, at 13:05.

Pick Six players get involved from the third race at 13:40. Bird On A Wing is a definite inclusion in all bets.

The Master Of My Fate filly made a good debut on the poly surface for the Gavin Smith stable last month and would probably be even better on the turf.

Gimme More Time is a possible banker. He is the favourite to win the fifth race, a handicap over 2000m, for the Justin Snaith yard.

This sixth-year-old gelding loves track and trip and apprentice jockey Savanna Valjalo has a huge opportunity to score here.

Then we get to those last three races where it should pay to load up in your bets - as always, let’s give it a go!
