Greeff and Fourie to make up ground

April 2026

Jack Milner

Trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Richard Fourie had a quiet day at Fairview on Wednesday with the honours all going to trainers Dean Smith and Kelly Mitchely, who came away with three winners apiece on the eight-race card.

It is not often we witness neither Greeff nor Fourie pulling in at least one winner in the day but the old saying that “tomorrow is another day” could apply to the champion trainer and his jockey at today’s Fairview meeting where they look to have some really decent runners.

The race meeting will be run on the Polytrack and the winners could start flowing as early as Race 1, a Juvenile Plate over 1400m, where they team up with the filly Casperita.

This daughter of Fire Away has her first taste of the Polytrack, but she should be too good for her four rivals. Casperita was a 6.75-length winner on debut and was not disgraced when making the trip to the Western Cape to contest the Grade 3 Ridgemont Cape Of Good Hope Nursery over 1200m, finishing 5.15 lengths behind Red Spice at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

The two-year-old filly steps up to 1400m for this, but that should not be a problem.

Their best on the day could come up in Race 7 where King Prawn should prove too good for his rivals in this MR 90 Handicap over 1200m. The Master Of My Fate gelding has won two of his eight starts and was a winner the only time he raced on this surface.

King Prawn clearly runs for Fourie, who has won twice in just four rides on him and was placed in the other two starts.

The three-year-old gelding was a solid third behind Cruise Control, arguably the best sprinter in the Eastern Cape, last time out after being slowly away and faced a stronger field than he meets on this occasion.
