Good rides for Zackey at Durbanville

There is an eight-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Tuesday and once again bettors will be faced with a tricky card. However, there are some interesting well-bred first-timers who will be running so one needs to keep an eye on the betting.

Perhaps the most exciting debutante is UK-bred Kingman filly Xtines Princess, who is out of Rip Van Winkle mare Let It Rip. She is trained by Justin Snaith for Khaya Stables and will be ridden by Craig Zackey.

Snaith’s comment in ComputaForm reads “Speedy filly, could run into the money”. But speed is what you need at Durbanville and it would not come as a surprise to see her make a winning debut in Race 4, an Open Maiden for fillies and mares over 1250m.

Sean Veale could get the meeting off to a winning start for punters when he rides Got The Look for trainer Candice Bass in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1250m.

This daughter of What A Winter has placed in her last two starts, the latest a fourth over 1400m having finished third over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth in her previous outing. She will appreciate reverting to the shorter trip and will not need to improve much on her reappearance following an 80-day break to open her account.

Zackey also has some good rides and of his raced mounts, Industrialstrength looks the standout bet on the card when he lines up in Race 7, a Class 4 Handicap over 1400m.

This son of Gimmethegreenlight, also owned by Khaya Stables but trained by Dean Kannemeyer, has had a good reputation from the start of his career but has not always given of his best. However, he was gelded and came back last time to beat Boogified by 1.75 lengths, reversing his defeat by the same horse a run earlier.

Industrialstrength could still have an edge over the handicapper and has run well at Durbanville early in his career so he looks hard to beat.

The Veale-Bass combination looks the main danger with Major Master, a lightly raced son of Master Of My Fate who is distance-suited and would have benefitted from a 14-week absence. The consistent four-year-old gelding is thought to have strengthened and improved in his time off and is expected to run a forward race in his reappearance under Veale.

The Exacta looks a decent betting opportunity.

Trainer James Crawford has a strong hand with four strings to his bow in Race 8, an Open Maiden over 2000m, but then pick of his quartet is Zackey's mount, Rare Earth, a lightly raced daughter of Danon Platina.

This maturing four-year-old filly stayed on strongly to finish a career-best second over 1700m at Kenilworth last time out and any improvement over the extra 300m should land Rare Earth in the winners’ enclosure for the first time.
