Good bets on offer at Fairview

There appear to be a couple of decent bankers on Friday’s Fairview card where they will hopefully be running on the turf track.

Over the past two weeks rain has played havoc with the conditions in Port Elizabeth and has forced the meetings to be switched to the Polytrack.

There are two runners in particular who stand out on the card and they are Woodland Ridge in Race 3 and Three Rocks in Race 5.

There are different reasons for making a runner the proverbial “good thing” and it’s not always because they are great performers. Sometimes it is just because the trainer has been astute in finding the right race and that looks to be case with Woodland Ridge.

Kelly Mitchley’s charge started his career on the Highveld where he had four starts before transferring to Port Elizabeth. The Vercingetorix gelding has raced three times for Mitchley running a fourth, a second and a third respectively which is far better form than any of his opposition can offer.

He is the best weighted runner by at least 5.5kg and with Louie Mxothwa up, looks a cut above his rivals in this Maiden Plate over 1200m.

Race 5 is a FM 68 Handicap over 1000m and Alan Greeff sends out juvenile Three Rocks who takes on her elders.

The Heavenly Blue filly could be better than her current merit rating of 85 and gets a perfect opportunity to prove that.

Three Rocks bumped a decent field on debut and only found Paris Love a bit better on the day.

It was a good debut and she was quick to break out the maiden ranks which she did in style, slamming Savic by 4.50 lengths. That rival has recently gone on to win and frank the form.
