Racing is on the Polytrack at Fairview on Friday and it looks a most competitive meeting.
But the old adage when looking for winners in Port Elizabeth is when in doubt, go with Gavin Smith and Alan Greeff. Both stables are in good form and they could provide some opportunities for punters.
Greeff could be on the mark in Race 5 where he sends out Golightly with Greg Cheyne up in an FM 68 Handicap over 1600m. Her last two runs have been on the turf, and she has a win and a fast-finishing second to her name, but it is her third last run that impressed as it was over this course and distance.
The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight was a runaway winner by 4.25-lengths and will be very hard to stop in this race.
The only danger, as expected, comes from Abia who is trained by Smith.
Smith looks hard to beat in Race 4, a MR 78 Handicap over 1900m, where he saddles Cane Lime 'N Soda. This five-year-old gelding is unbeaten in two starts on the Polytrack at Fairview and although it is a competitive race, he has been winning his races with authority and will be right there at the finish.
Juan Nel-trained Royal Shindig looked to be going nowhere after his maiden win in 2021 but blinkers were reached for and the improvement was immediate. The Noble Tune gelding scored a narrow win at this course over the distance of Race 7, a MR 72 Handicap over 1600m.
He did not perform on the turf after that but back on the Polytrack in February he scored another narrow victory.
He finished unplaced in a Pinnacle Stakes after that but was clearly outclassed. Back in a handicap he could provide some value.
