GLENFINNAN TO TAKE HAMILTON HONOURS

There was a lot to like about Glenfinnan’s triumph at Ascot last month and he looks worth keeping on side in the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Clyde Handicap at Hamilton.

The son of Harry Angel was tried over a mile during his time with Andrew Balding, which featured two wins from nine starts, but has been dropped back to six furlongs since moving to Michael Dods.

Following a sighter at Newmarket, he travelled strongly in a competitive Ascot contest before striking the front two furlongs from home.

Market leaders Billyjoh and Russet Gold both made Glenfinnan work for victory, but he was always doing enough to keep them at bay and the feeling is that there may have been a bit more left in the tank.

Now a four-year-old gelding, he is perfectly primed to make further progress and develop into a really decent sprinter.

Leodis Dream still looks in love with the game at the age of eight and can take his win tally into double figures in the Morton Fraser Macroberts LLP Handicap.

Paul Midgley’s valiant veteran made all in fine style on the all-weather at Southwell in April and was then a rock-solid runner-up at Ripon behind Mattice, who has since gone well in a higher grade at York.

Corsican Caper can kick things off at Haydock by coming out on top in the Betfred Training Series Apprentice Handicap.

Kevin Frost’s gelding has been in great form this year, winning four times already, and shaped as though this step up to two miles would suit when a narrow second at Leicester recently.

Hugo Palmer’s juveniles tend to improve with experience and that proved the case with Arabian Cobra when he stepped up on a Chester sixth by going close at Windsor.

The son of Dark Angel pushed odds-on favourite Afentiko all the way to the line before going down by just a neck and can now hopefully make it third time lucky in the Betfred ‘Join Our Sports Club’ EBF Novice Stakes.

The Good Biscuit can make the long journey from Jack Channon’s West Ilsley yard pay off by securing a third career success in the Betfred Nifty 50 Handicap.

He prevailed at Leicester and Lingfield last summer and returned from a 10-month lay-off with a very encouraging runner-up effort behind Sergeant Wilko at the first-named track.

Lasting Love should benefit from dropping down in class for the Betfred Double Delight Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, having twice shown promise before struggling in the Cheshire Oaks.

Woodleigh was a most impressive scorer at Ripon last week and a 6lb penalty may not stop Declan Carroll’s gelding from following up in the Betfred ‘Bet Builder’ Handicap.

Ten Dimes stands out at Chelmsford in the Bet Boost At bet365 EBF ‘Confined’ Fillies’ Novice Stakes for John and Thady Gosden.

Her dam Cushion did well for the Clarehaven yard and has already produced a useful performer in Hafit.

This daughter of No Nay Never still looked to have scope for improvement when making all at Newcastle in mid-April and has been given a little more time to develop, with a Ribblesdale entry at Royal Ascot highlighting how she is held in high regard.

Kilta did a lot wrong at Cartmel recently but still came through to claim victory and gets the nod to go in again at Uttoxeter in the Glyn Hall Wealth Management Handicap Chase.
