Jack Milner: Racing at Fairview on Tuesday is another case of getting in early to build up a kitty for later.
There looks to be some good bets in Races 1 and 2, in particular.
A double on Agrademarmalade in Race 1 and Spanish Fort in Race 2 looks the way to go early on. They are trained by leading Port Elizabeth trainers Gavin Smith and Alan Greeff respectively, and have top jockeys up in the form of Lyle Hewitson and Greg Cheyne.
Smith is having his best year for some time and his juveniles have been striking with regularity. Progeny of sire Duke Of Marmalade have been doing well on the Polytrack and Agrademarmalade looks ready to win.
The two-year-old colt is coming off three successive runner-up berths and a change of luck is due.
All three of those runs were behind decent sorts and this course and distance will hold no fears for him.
Hewitson takes the ride this time and that could make all the difference.
Africa’s Rock found good betting support on his debut and can be considered an unlucky loser, as he would have won in another stride or two.
The Querari gelding showed good pace over the course and distance and only the lack of experience cost him victory.
The winner that day, Winging It, has run well since and Africa’s Rock should make amends for those who backed him last time.
Stable companion Mesmerizing Moon has looked better than just ending up a one-time winner so from a good draw could take out Race 3.
She will probably be at her very best over further but she has also won over the course and distance.
The only danger looks to be Orferd’s Flash, who joins Smith from the Western Cape and has Hewitson in the irons.
