Free State girls soccer academy scores R6 700 with TAB

August 2023

A lucky Free State punter’s TAB bet in the spirit of Mandela Month has scored R6 700 in much-needed funds for a Viljoenskroon soccer academy for girls.

As part of 4Racing and TAB’s Bet for Change promotion, all punters were given back 6.7% of turnover for all Tote bets placed on TAB4Racing from 18 – 31 July.

Punters were also entered into a lucky draw as part of the promotion - for R6 700 to be awarded to their charity of choice as part of the company’s ethos of profit through purpose - which was held on 1 August.

Avid TAB Soccer punter, Ishmail Lekgetho, was drawn as the lucky winner, fittingly donating the prize to the Musa Sports Academy, which promotes and supports soccer for girls in the Viljoenskroon area.

“I saw the ad, but I didn’t see the promotion, because I don’t usually win competitions, so I don’t pay attention to them, but I placed a bet anyway,” a surprised and delighted Lekgetho said when contacted by TAB to inform him of his windfall.

“I’ve been betting for about a year now. The betting experience has been quite an enjoyable one and keeps me on my toes. I have to study new trends to stay on top, especially with soccer, which is what is what I bet mostly on,” says Lekgetho.

And he also shared the heart-warming reason he decided to donate the prize to the Musa Sports Academy.

“The lady who started the sports academy passed away last month and left many young children vulnerable due to a lack of support and funds, because she would fund the academy out of her own pocket and bought them apparel to play. That’s why I chose the charity. I wanted to help support the young people that are a part of it, support their sporting activities and help keep them off the streets and deter them from turning to drugs,” Lekgetho said .
