- Henk Steenkamp
Richard Fourie is just three winners away from becoming only the second jockey to ride 100 or more winners in an East Cape Season.
Grey Cheyne was the first to do so when he rode 116 winners in the 2018/’19 season.
Fourie took a well-deserved break at the start of the current season. If it was not for that, he would probably have passed the record mark of Cheyne.
With only two Fairview meetings remaining in the 2022/’23 season, Fourie is on 97 winners, so he should have no problem reaching his hundred.
He has only won the East Cape title once before, in the 2011/’12 season when he had 47 winners.
Fourie will be back at the Fairview Polytrack this coming Friday. The first race is at 12:40.
