FOURIE BACK AT FAIRVIEW

August 2024

Henk Steenkamp

Champion jockey Richard Fourie will be at the Fairview Polytrack for the first time this season on Tuesday and should immediately make an impact.

Fourie is not carded to ride in the fourth race but his mounts have all been priced up as favourites for the other seven races.

He will ride some very strong favourites for the Alan Greeff stable but could start the meeting on a winning note with the Kelly Mitchley yard.

Vintage Crystal looks like a penalty kick in the first race, which is also the first leg of the Bipot, at 12:40.

It is hard to look past Vintage Crystal. Elusive Mata (Sharon Kotzen) is the only danger.

Fourie and Mitchley also combine with the favourite Erimitage in the second race, which gets the Place Accumulator underway at 13:15.

The first Greeff runner on the day is Back For More in race three. The Global View filly can be strongly considered as a banker in the first leg of the pick Six, off at 13:50. As Fate Has It (Gavin Smith) is the danger.

Fourie won’t be riding in race four, the first leg of the first Jackpot, where Crimson Comet (Mitchley) is the horse to beat according to the betting.

The race is at 14:25 and Island Master (Kotzen) should give the favourite a run for his money.

Greeff and Fourie combine with Global Ally in race five, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1900m, at 15:00.

Global Ally looks the right horse in a small field but keep an eye on Syx Hotfix (Smith) who is making his debut on the Fairview Poly.

Puerto Plaza (race 6 at 15:35) is another one from the Greeff-Fourie combination who has a huge winning chance.

Painite (Kotzen) can’t be ignored in this handicap over 2200m.

Fourie will be on Can’t Say in race seven at 16:15 but Pashtunwali (Cliffie Miller) will have many supporters in the Classified Stakes over 1300m.

Pashtunwali is in tremendous form, is drawn well and Marco van Rensburg is riding at the top of his game at the moment – big runner.

The meeting will end with the usual wide open handicap, race eight at 16:45. Fourie will be on Arturo from a good draw but Irontail (Kotzen) and Mr Bodacious (Smith) are amongst the challengers with a winning chance.
