Fourie again in the forefront at Kenilworth

June 2024

Jack Milner

Richard Fourie is now looking unstoppable in his quest for 335 winners in a season, one more than the current record held by Anthony Delpech.

At the time of writing, he was already on 321, and there are still two months to run in the season.

He has some really decent rides at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday and there are at least three runners that stand.

Fourie could get off the mark as early as Race 1 where he rides Glen Kotzen-trained Worldly in this Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200m.

This One World colt posted his career-best performance under Fourie when finishing third over 1000m on 20 April. He ran well in defeat against older rivals over 1200m last month, especially having conceded 3kg to the more-experienced four-year-old winner who beat Kotzen's charge by just 3.80 lengths.

His return to that course and distance against his contemporaries with a tongue-tie fitted and Fourie in the irons makes Worldly a good win bet.

He then rides Powerandtheglory in Race 3, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1400m, for Justin Snaith. This Vercingetorix colt is a half-brother to Double Superlative and is expected to improve markedly from his debut run in which he finished a 4.55-length fourth behind Kaiboy. That race was over 1000m and the extra 400m on this occasion should make him hard to beat, especially from No 2 draw.

Roman Agent will be running in Race 4 and if he wins, Lion Rampart can be confidently backed to win Race 8, the Listed Somerset 1200, in which Vaughan Marshall holds a strong hand with a formidable coupling.

Preference, however, is for One World colt Lion Rampart who has improved in three starts with blinkers fitted. He finished ahead of Roman Agent when second to One Stripe in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery over 1100m last time out. Lion Rampart (fourth) also fared better than Roman Agent (eighth) in the 1200m Grade 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery won by One Stripe on 24 February.
