Bigger targets surely await Formal if she can double her tally in the British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Leicester.
Sir Michael Stoute’s youngster is bred in the purple as a daughter of Dubawi out of Cheveley Park’s Group One-winning racemare Veracious, and she made a smart start to her career at Newbury in July.
While runners from this yard tend to improve for experience, Formal was more than ready enough for her racecourse debut, readily accounting for an odds-on favourite who had already shown a decent level of ability in the form of Glistening.
The third and fourth home, Qilin Queen and Veraison, both came out and won on their next starts, so the form looks watertight and given Formal can only progress from that initial experience, she is difficult to oppose in the Midlands under a penalty.
Archivist is also of interest for the same connections in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.
Another Dubawi product owned and bred by Cheveley Park, the chestnut colt shaped with distinct promise on his debut at Lingfield, beaten just under six lengths into fourth place.
It would be no surprise to see a much improved performance at the second time of asking.
One Of Our Own can continue her productive summer at Catterick in the Racing TV Club Day Handicap.
The four-year-old has been kept busy in low grade sprint handicaps by trainer Rebecca Menzies, running eight times since the start of June, but she has managed three wins over this course and distance.
She struck gold twice here in August under 5lb claimer Kaiya Fraser, who clearly gets a good tune out of her and is on board once again. A 4lb hike for her latest triumph does not look insurmountable.
At Newcastle’s evening fixture, David O’Meara’s impressive Thirsk scorer Barefoot Warrior is fancied to follow up in the Get Raceday Ready Novice Stakes.
