Follow the Marshall and Marcus Paper Trail in the Cape
January 2021
Trainer Vaughan Marshall and jockey Anton Marcus could come away with a double Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Best of the day looks to be Paper Trail in Race 6, a Maiden Pate over 1400m.
Marcus climbs aboard this Vaughan Marshall-trained runner for the first time and he has the benefit of jumping from No 1 draw.
This son of Legislate did not show much in his first three starts but he was subsequently gelded and has improved markedly. In his last start, which was over this course and distance, Paper Trail went to the front and was only caught in the dying stages by strong favourite Somerset Maugham, going down 0.50 lengths.
From pole position, Marcus will be able to get hi out smartly and get his mount well positioned. He is not coming up against the strongest of opposition and he looks hard to beat.
The combination of Marcus and Marshall could also be successful in Race 2, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m. They team up with Gimmethegreenlight colt Green Vigilante, and Marshall is on the record saying the youngster is putting up some good work at home.
One never really knows how they will perform at the course but Marshall has had a few good ones in his time and he does not place his confidence in a juvenile without just cause.
