Jack Milner
Gavin Lerena makes the trip to Hollywoodbets Greyville today for the twilight meeting and it would come as no surprise to see him return home with a handful of winners.
While he does not have a ride in Race 1, he does have rides in the remaining seven events and virtually all of them have winning chances.
Perhaps the best of his rides are the two he has picked up from trainer Frikkie Greyling, Mr Hotstepper in Race 4 and Numzaan in Race 5
Racing is on the Polytrack and Mr Hotstepper lines up in a Progress Plate over 1400m. This three-year-old gelding has only raced for two wins and a second place. He is one of those horses who is equally comfortable on turf or poly and the good news is that he has won his only start over course and distance.
He is not the best weighted runner in this field but being lightly raced, this son of Ideal World could be a lot better than his merit rating. He is well drawn in gate No 4 and will be highly competitive in this line-up.
The best weighted runner by some way is Sovereign Grant but she gets the 2.5kg fillies’ allowance and her recent form is not exciting.
Numzaan runs in a Class 5 Handicap, also over 1400m, and this gelding came in for solid betting support on his KwaZulu-Natal debut based on his Western Cape form and led through the 400m mark before fading out late to finish a 3.20-length third behind Porfirio.
Stripping fitter this time and with Lerena up, he could show a lot more as long as he takes to the Polytrack.
