Qhawekazi reverts to 1400m after a disappointing last start over 1600m 10 weeks ago. On the strength and consistency of her form in three previous outings, this William Longsword filly could be worth following on her comeback in Race 3, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
In her two previous starts under Richard Fourie, Qhawekazi finished a close-up third over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville and a 0.75-length second over 1400m at Kenilworth.
Fourie could also be on the mark in Race where he rides Andre Nel-trained filly Go Like Flo. She took time to come to hand but has registered three wins in as many starts refitted with blinkers.
This daughter of Gimmethegreenlight opened her account at the 12th attempt over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville in September and doubled her tally over 1400m at the country course in her following outing a month later before completing her hat-trick when returning to Kenilworth in mid-December.
Her merit rating has shot up 14 points (7kg) as a result but that may not be enough to prevent her from winning again with Fourie now booked for the ride.
It is worth noting that each of those three wins has come from unfavourable wide draws - No 12 of 12; No 10 of 14; No 14 of 15 - so jumping from gate No 6 on this occasion in a field 10 should make her task relatively easier.
