FIREALLEY, trained by Jacques Strydom, will be out to defend his title in the Listed Algoa Cup over 2000m at Fairview on Saturday 31 October.
This gelded son of Flower Alley, only the second Port Elizabeth-based horse to win this prestigious R350,000 race in the last 20 years - the other being Surfin’ USA in 2009, also trained by Strydom - is one of 23 runners entered.
But FireAlley faces a tough task as My Best Shot, reigning Eastern Cape Horse of the Season, and Bournemouth, the province’s Champion Stayer, are also among the entries. Both horses are from the stable of Champion Trainer Alan Greeff.
As ususal, a strong contingent from the Western Cape will also make the trek to Gqeberha. Trainers Justin Snaith, Glen Kotzen, and Andre Nel have entered no less than eight runners between them.
Declarations for the Algoa Cup close on Monday 27 October.
