The TAB SA Derby and Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks, both Grade 2 events over 2450m at Turffontein on 4 April, close off the TAB SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara for 2026.
We now know that no colt or gelding is in line to capture the R2-million bonus for winning all three legs of the Triple Crown with Gauteng Guineas winner Splittheeights finishing third in the Grade 1 SA Classic.
However, Corne Spies-trained Hazy Dazy could well become the first three-year-old filly to claim the Triple Tiara since Rain In Holland in 2022.
She scored an almost start-to-finish victory in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Classic over 1800n and now just needs to win the Oaks to earn the R1-million bonus and etch her name into the SA record books.
Of course, it is not all that easy but she does look to be quite special and could well pull it off. Some of her rivals will be seen in action on the Standside track at Turffontein on Saturday with the running of the Non-Black Type Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial over 2000m.
However, the result of the SA Fillies Classic will have an impact on this race after in-form Scarlett Heart ran third behind Hazy Dazy and Golden Palm. Going off at 66-1, the Fanie Bronkhorst-trained filly was beaten just 2.50 lengths and had the like of Lowveld Lily and Charge It behind her.
That all points firmly to Stuart Pettigrew-trained Into Dancing, who finished close behind Scarlett Heart in her last two starts. This daughter of Ideal World has had one run over 2000m in which she finished third but on breeding she should not have a problem.
Into Dancing has also improved since fitted with blinkers and she looks the runner to beat. Calvin Habib has picked up the ride for the first time and beautifully drawn in Gate No 4, she could prove hard to beat.
Another filly who has finished close to Scarlett Heart is Candice and Tammy Dawson-trained Reece’s Wish. This daughter of Vercingetorix has raced five times for one win and for seconds.
Last time she actually split Scarlett Heart and Into Dancing, finish just a head in front of the latter. However, Reece’s Wish is now 0.5kg worse off and that puts them very close together.
The distance, however, could favour Into Dancing.

The WSB Listed Hawwaam Stakes is an race open to all three-year-olds and Mike and Mathew de Kock are the only trainers to add a filly into the mix.

The daughter of Rafeef has sharpened up noticeably since the application of blinkers. Her three starts in the headgear have produced two thirds in KwaZulu-Natal and most significantly, a last-start victory against the boys when returning to the Highveld.
On that occasion at the Vaal Classic track she stormed home from well off the pace to score over 2000m under Jeffrey Syster. With just 51.5kg on her back this time and further improvement likely, she looks attractively treated and rates a confident win bet against male opposition.
The other Listed race comes up in Race 7 and is the WSB Aquanaut Handicap over 2400m.
There are a few with chances but the manner in which Enflame won last time, this four-year-old Irish Flame gelding can give the Dawsons another winner on the card.
He has won his last two races, both over 2400m, and will have Serino Moodley back in the irons.
