Field of dreams on the cards at Goodwood

July 2025

Field Of Gold will be a skinny price in the Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes but it is hard to side against him at Goodwood on Wednesday.

John and Thady Gosden's grey has certainly established himself as the best miler of his generation, despite being eclipsed in the 2000 Guineas back in May when he launched his final sprint all too late and was beaten half a length by Ruling Court.

The son of Kingman righted that record with a bloodless victory in the Irish equivalent before putting Ruling Court firmly in his place in the St James's Palace Stakes, coming home a 3.5-length victor over Henri Matisse.

Henri Matisse tries his luck again here but there is no obvious reason why he should reverse that form and while the likes of Rosallion provide a new test in this first clash with older horses, Field Of Gold's three-year-old weight advantage leaves him holding all the aces.

Ameeq's claims in the HKJC World Pool Molecomb Stakes are perhaps less clear cut, but Kevin Ryan's runner makes plenty of appeal judged on his Royal Ascot run.

Beaten on debut at Beverley but then a Nottingham maiden winner, Ryan felt his charge was worth a shot in the Norfolk Stakes, where he was sent off a 100-1 shot.

He defied those odds to finish a 3.5-length fourth to Charles Darwin and a repeat of that kind of form should put him right in the mix here.

Tabiti can add a second Group Three win to her CV in the HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes.

Victorious at that level at Salisbury at two, she subsequently found the Fillies' Mile too stiff an ask and was dropped back to handicap company for the Sandringham at Royal Ascot on her seasonal bow.

Sporting first time blinkers that day, she had to give best to a couple of race-fit rivals in finishing third, conceding 13lb to the winner and 16lb to the second.

She is more favourably treated back in Group Three company and that spin should have put the racing edge on her.

Look To The Stars can build on a debut second as he tackles the Chasemore Farm EBF Novice Stakes at Sandown, while Tactical Formation is worth another shot in Redcar's Racing TV Free Trial British EBF Novice Stakes after a disappointing initial run. - Press Association
