Field Marshal to lead the way at Greyville

September 2024

Frank Robinson-trained Field Marshal looks to be going about things the right way.

It takes a decent sort to win first time round a turn as a youngster. Field Marshal not only did that but beat elders in that, his only second racecourse appearance. Highly rated by his connections, he was tried at a high grade straight after and acquitted himself well enough to be given a merit rating of 90.

He confirmed the rating when going further and got up close to seasoned campaigners Tobacconist and Selukwe so has decent stamina. As he can race handily and has shown he can take it to the wire, he could make the switch to the Polytrack like a duck to water in Race 4, a MR 73 Handicap over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday.

It is a competitive heat but jumping from gate No 2 should see him have every chance, especially with Gavin Lerena in the irons.

Robinson ended last season on a high with a feature win on Gold Cup Day and together with Puller the pair is in hot form, so both yards are worth following.

Another three-year-old demanding attention is Coral Blaze in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m who looks well placed to give her connections a big run for top honours.

Coral Blaze is a well-bred daughter of The United States. She is related to Hollywoodbets Durban July Grade 1 hero Oriental Charm and brings fair Western Cape form into the KwaZulu-Natal maiden ranks. Being a frontrunner she should be hard to catch.
