Fairview meeting moved to Poly

Jack Milner: Due to an overnight downpour of 8mm of rain the meeting scheduled for today has been moved from the Turf track to the Polytrack due to unsafe underfoot conditions on the inside rail down the straight.

All distances remain unchanged except for the Glenlair Trophy which will now be run over 2750m.

The most important scratching comes in Race 4 where odds-on favourite World Radar has been withdrawn, while Justin Snaith has also taken Black Silver out of the East Coast Oaks

Three-year-olds are in the spotlight at Fairview with the running of the Listed East Cape Oaks for fillies and the Derby Plate, both over 2000m.

There are two other features on the card, the Listed Glenlair Trophy over 2800m and the Fairview Flying Five (Non-Black Type) over 1000m.

It comes as no surprise to see the usual Western Cape raiders coming to town – Justin Snaith, Candice Bass Robinson, Andre Nel and Glen Kotzen.

Just how the change of surface will affect them, only the races will tell us.

However, the move could work in favour of the locally based runners so the visitors may have their hopes in the Oaks stymied by Alan Greeff and jockey Greg Cheyne.

Greeff saddles 18 runners at the meeting but while he has at least doubled up in the other features, he sends out just Colorado Springs in the Oaks.

This daughter of Ideal World has been the model of consistency, having run nine times for four wins and five seconds. Even when beaten, it has not been by more than a length.

She has run three times over 2000m for two wins, although her lone defeat was on the Polytrack. But she is the best handicapped runner by at least 5kg. Last time she beat Kotzen-trained Musical Glitch by 0.50 lengths and is now 6kg better off.

Snaith-trained Black Silver is a one-time winner but is lightly raced and could be a bigger threat with Richard Fourie up.

The visitors could be more successful in the Glenlair Trophy where Snaith-trained Silver Sky could have the edge over Nel’s charge, Warrior Bling.

Silver Sky is a proven stayer and was unlucky to be touched off in the Listed Kenilworth Cup over 3200m in February. With Fourie up, Snaith’s charge is sure to be right there at the finish and hopefully go one better this time.
