FA CUP: MAN CITY DRAW NEWCASTLE WHILE MAN UNITED FACE FIERCE RIVALS

February 2024

This week’s midweek fixtures have been nothing short of entertainment as the Round 5 of the FA Cup took centre stage. On Monday, Coventry City took on National League side, Maidstone United and left no stone unturned as they thrashed the non-league side 5-0 to secure their spot in the Quarterfinals of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

On Tuesday, Manchester City travelled to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town in their Round 5 fixture and delivered a breath-taking performance as Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland delivered 4 assists and 5 goals respectively to give City a 6-2 win over the Hatters.

Newcastle United needed a penalty shootout to separate themselves with Blackburn Rovers as the Magpies secured their Quarterfinal spot. Leicester also booked their Round 6 spot on Tuesday night as they beat Premier League side, Bournemouth.

Wednesday night produced 2 last minute winners as Chelsea beat Leeds 3-2 with Conor Gallagher netting the late winner while Bruno Fernandes delivered a perfect free kick into the box for Casemiro to head home the only goal of the game as they saw past a troublesome Nottingham Forest side.

Wolves also booked their tickets for the Quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Molineux Stadium while Liverpool walked away 3-0 winners against a stubborn Southampton side. Though the score might make it seem like the Saints were a walkover, it was not a straightforward win for Liverpool as Soton caused them problems throughout the game.

Here are how the fixtures of the Quarterfinals of the FA Cup look:

Manchester City v Newcastle United

Chelsea v Leicester City

Wolves v Coventry City

Manchester United v Liverpool

The fixtures take place on the 16th of March at 17:00 (CAT)
