Eydon can deliver at Kempton

December 2024

Eydon appears to have a golden opportunity to add to his solitary career success as he lines up in the Unibet Wild Flower Stakes at Kempton on Wednesday.

Now a five-year-old, Eydon has not tasted victory since landing the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket back in 2022, before going on to claim an excellent fourth in that year's 2000 Guineas.

A subsequent Derby run was scuppered by injury and the son of Olden Times then endured a series of setbacks that kept him off the track for 665 days and mean he has had just seven outings in his life.

An initial all-weather comeback run back in February proved a bit of a false start, as he was then sidelined for another 210 days, but Andrew Balding has managed to get two runs in the bag during the autumn, finishing second in an Ayr Listed event and third at the same level at Newmarket on his most recent run.

His rating of 110 puts him well ahead of all his rivals here and while 2400m is an unknown, he was keeping on well at the end on his penultimate effort and is vastly favoured by the race conditions.

Cool Party can reverse recent form with Duke Of Oxford in the Unibet London Stayers' Series Handicap.

He beat that rival by 1.25-lengths when winning at Kempton in October, but was then the same distance behind Duke Of Oxford in fourth place when last seen.

Cool Party employed very different tactics in those two runs, making all when successful but sitting off the pace and trying to come with a late run on the second occasion.

A steady pace would not have helped him there and he cannot be dismissed in the final of this 3200m series.

Stanley Spencer can bring up his hat-trick in the Unibet Zero% Mission Handicap.

A narrow Southwell win in September was supplemented by a more comfortable 1-length verdict at Kempton last time, suggesting there may be a bit left in the locker.

Ocean Walz is the pick in division one of the Hereford FC Forever United Novices' Hurdle at Hereford.

A half-brother to Grade Two winner Sizing Pottsie, he has shown distinct promise in three bumper runs, finishing second on each start, most recently at Worcester.

The four-year-old was beaten just a length there and looks a surefire future winner.

Torneo can enjoy his moment in the spotlight in the Spa Motors Hereford Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

Winner of one of his five hurdles runs, he has placed on each of his two chase starts and looks primed for victory after being beaten just 0.5-lengths at Wetherby.
