Navarre Express looks the type to thrive having recently got off the mark and can follow up in the worldpool.hkjc.com Handicap on Wednesday at Nottingham.
Brought along slowly by Hugo Palmer, the daughter of Roaring Lion always seemed likely to improve once stepped up in trip and so it proved.
Placed in a couple of novice events, she made her handicap debut off a mark of 71 at Ffos Las and fairly bolted up.
That was her first run over a 2400m and while she clearly stayed it well, she drops back in trip to an extended 2000m.
That should not be too much of an issue as she would have won last time out whatever the trip.
It is quite a big afternoon for Jane Chapple-Hyam earlier on the card as she fields two very interesting runners.
She runs Rolica in the HKJC Riding High Together EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes – a 320,000 guineas daughter of Lope De Vega – and Salamanca in the Bet With The World On Saturday EBF Maiden Stakes.
Salamanca is by Sea The Stars out of Awesometank, a Listed winner and second in the 2019 Beverly D Stakes for William Haggas.
He cost 335,000 guineas, with both contenders owned by former trainer Peter Harris, who will be hoping for a decent showing.
Tarraff can continue the good end to the season for Simon and Ed Crisford.
She needed six attempts to break her maiden but now that she has, she could be the type to go on a run.
Having performed well in her first three races, she was sent off odds-on for a Kempton novice event when trying to make all but was headed close home.
It was a different story when she encountered soft ground for the first time at Leicester, powering clear a long way from home to win by 3.5-lengths.
The daughter of Lope De Vega has been upped 3kg in the weights, but she could be the type to really progress with cut in the ground in the Racing Again 21st October Handicap.
Bellarchi has been a real success story this season for owners Nick Bradley Racing and trainer Grant Tuer. She has had 11 races in her first season but continues to progress with each one.
Tuer admitted he could not believe it took her seven attempts to break her duck, but since then she has thrived.
From that initial Catterick success she went on to win at Carlisle and Hamilton, rising from 69 to 81 in the handicap, before finishing fourth in a valuable nursery at the St Leger meeting.
A week later she was upped to a Group Three at Ayr to try to register some black type and while she finished eighth, she was only beaten 4.75-lengths. Now rated 86, she sets a good standard in the Jason Booth 50 Not Out Nursery Handicap.
Perseus Way is an interesting runner for Owen Burrows in the Unibet Support Safe Gambling Handicap at Kempton.
Originally with Charlie Appleby, he was sold and sent to Burrows who won a Newbury handicap off 77 with him before he joined Gary Moore for a hurdling campaign.
Useful in that sphere, winning twice and running respectably in graded company, he is now back with Burrows and runs off top weight rated 80.
Appleby’s Honest Desire ran better than his fifth shows in the form book last time out.
He had filled the same spot on debut but next time he lost two positions right on the line. He might just have too much knowledge this time in the first division of the Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.
In the second division Saeed bin Suroor’s Warsong stands out. Well fancied for his debut, he finished fourth there with Kevin Stott informing the stewards he ran green. Expect better this time. - Press Association
