Eau De Vie to lift supporters’ spirits

There was a lot to like about Eau De Vie’s introduction to the Polytrack last time and she can improve on that performance when she lines up in Race 7 on that surface at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.

Her name literally translates to “water of life”, but in France it refers to a distilled beverage made from fruit other than grapes, so hopefully she will lift the spirits of bettors today.

Carl Hewitson’s charge ran on well in her last race to finish a 1.50-length third behind well-supported Maria Carolina over 1400m. Matters did not go her way. Apprentice Malesela Katjedi dropped his crop and this three-year-old daughter of Twice Over also had to switch in at a vital stage of the race.

While she will again be racing over 1400m in this MR 68 Handicap, she takes quite a drop in class. The average merit rating in her last race was 75 while on this occasion it is 63.

Of course, that does mean her weight takes a bit of a hike but while she is carded to carry 61.5kg, apprentice Katjedi will take 1.5kg off her back.

Eau De Vie is perfectly drawn in gate No 2 and looks the runner with the most room for improvement in this field.

This is not the easiest of cards and it could well be worth taking a chance and making her a banker in all bets.
