Eaton Anne can bounce back at Southwell

December 2025

Eaton Anne is given another chance to prove his worth in the Download The At The Races App Handicap Hurdle at Southwell on Tuesday.

The seven-year-old won twice last season and was a hot favourite to make a winning return here two and a half weeks ago, but could only finish a slightly lacklustre fourth.

That run may have blown away a few cobwebs though, and perhaps the step up to a4800m for the first time since winning his point-to-point a couple of years ago will bring about some improvement.

Take Centre Stage catches the eye in the Join Southwell Golf Club Handicap Chase.

Rated as high as 98 at one stage last year, the eight-year-old's mark has dropped to 91 ahead of his latest assignment having lost his way at the back end of 2024.

However, he put up an improved performance on his return from almost a year off the track at Newcastle recently, finishing third after making much of the running, and he will surely be a bit sharper for that run.

Banyan can make a winning return from a lengthy absence in the Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Novice Stakes at Lingfield.

This daughter of Siyouni was seemingly not that well fancied on her racecourse debut at Newmarket in November of last year, but she outran her odds of 14-1 with a second place finish behind hot favourite Bright Times Ahead, who is now rated 79.

Banyan's fitness has to be taken on trust after almost 400 days out of action, but she makes her comeback in a race which will not take much winning.

Likealot may be able to bring a frustrating run of results to an end in the Midnite Are Upping The Betting Game Handicap.

The daughter of Camelot looked really promising when winning on her Chelmsford debut in February, but she came up short in Listed company next time and has since been placed on five of her six starts in handicaps, picking up the silver medal on four occasions.

While her progress does appear to have plateaued, she looks to have been found a good opportunity to get her head back in front.

All-weather fare also comes to Newcastle, where James Ferguson's Art Gallery is expected to make it third time lucky in the Read Meg Nicholls' Blog At betmgm.co.uk Restricted Novice Stakes.

A disappointing last of eight when favourite for her Southwell debut, the St Mark's Basilica filly left that form well behind when beaten a neck into second place by Darn Hot Gallop at Wolverhampton at the start of November.

That form looks strong, with the winner since following up at Newcastle, and Art Gallery is now expected to earn herself a visit to the Gosforth Park winner's enclosure. - Press Association
