Dust can clean up for Mullins at Kempton

February 2026

Rising Dust makes the trip across the Irish Sea for the first time for the Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase at Kempton on Saturday and can make it a winning one.

The eight-year-old has been a winning machine since switching to the care of Emmet Mullins with five victories from his seven starts for the stable.

He won twice over hurdles at Listowel and Punchestown before coming unstuck at Clonmel when he was a well beaten sixth, but a line can be drawn through that as the vet reported he returned with grazes to his legs.

That prompted a switch to the larger obstacles and the son of Leading Light has quickly taken to the return to chasing with a hat-trick of victories, all coming at Thurles, that has seen him rise 39lb and he can make it four in row in Sunbury.

Harry Derham's string have been in impressive form recently and the momentum is taken to roll on with Klub De Reve in the Ladbrokes Dovecote Novices' Hurdle.

The six-year-old has steadily improved over hurdles and comfortably shed his maiden tag by 10 lengths at Kempton on Boxing Day.

He does hold an entry in the Supreme at Cheltenham and while he is a big price for that now, an impressive victory here could see him throw his hat into the ring.

Precious Man is another with winning Kempton form and can make a winning return to Sunbury in the Ladbrokes Adonis Juvenile Hurdle.

The Dan Skelton-trained Precious Man was beaten in the Triumph Trial at Cheltenham by Derham's One Horse Town in November and can reverse the form.

Wind surgery followed that defeat and he was doing his best work in the closing stages as he returned with a 4.5-length victory last month at Kempton and should again demonstrate his liking of the course.

Jax Junior can relish the step up in trip to 4000m in the Ladbrokes Pendil Novices' Chase.

The Lucy Wadham-trained seven-year-old won impressively at Sandown over an extended 3000m following wind surgery and a return to graded company can bare fruit.

Mr Vango's primary target this season has been the Grand National and he can put the finishing touches to his preparation in the Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Eider Handicap Chase at Newcastle.

The Sara Bradstock-trained gelding paid for a poor jump at the final fence but was only beaten a short head by Ben Pauling's Twig in the Becher Chase in December.

He was out of sorts and pulled up at Sandown when found to be suffering from corns on his feet last time out but is taken to put that to bed and can come out on top on Tyneside.

Chancellor has been a different horse since having a wind operation and being gelded during the summer and the momentum can be maintained as the Flat gathers pace ahead of the new turf season in the Midnite Winter Derby at Lingfield.

The Cheveley Park stud owned four-year-old won at Kempton in November before being beaten only a neck back in Sunbury in the Listed Hyde Stakes but followed that up with a cosy victory in the Tandridge Stakes at Southwell.

He can bring the John and Thady Gosden yard a fifth victory in the race since 2019.

All-weather specialist Diligent Harry is the pick to record a 10th success on the surface in the Midnite Hever Sprint Stakes. - Press Association
