Dusk can take Chelmer spotlight

May 2025

Arabian Dusk is expected to enjoy dropping back in distance for the bet365 Chelmer Fillies' Stakes at Chelmsford on Thursday.

The daughter of star sprinter Havana Grey was a smart juvenile over 1200m last season, scoring in Group Two company and finishing third behind Lake Victoria in the Cheveley Park.

With an Irish 1,000 Guineas entry in the book, Simon and Ed Crisford flirted with the idea of stretching out her stamina by returning in the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket over 1400m.

Arabian Dusk appeared visually to have done well from two to three and nothing seemed to be going better as she eased her way to the front at the 400m pole, but there was little left in the tank once Zanzoun swept impressively past.

Fourth place did not really reflect how well she ran overall, though, so a Listed-class contest back down at 1200m feels like the ideal opportunity to gain a confidence boost.

Altareq was among the fancied runners in the Wood Ditton and showed some encouraging signs before faltering late on.

A full-brother to the useful Al Asifah, John and Thady Gosden's Frankel colt looks sure to come on for that outing in the Racing Value At bet365 Novice Stakes.

Spy Kingdom went down by just a head when second of 15 in that same prestigious Newmarket event and has obvious claims of going one better in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Maiden Stakes at Yarmouth.

Richard Hannon will be determined to get a win into Mother Nature's half-sister Stellenbosch in the Infobond Technical Manpower Services Fillies' Handicap.

Following a couple of encouraging juvenile efforts, she returned from a 271-day absence to finish a head second to well-backed winner Swiss Lightning at Newmarket last month and more improvement is on the cards.

Andrew Balding's Musical Angel sets a strong standard in the Heggs Next Generation Fillies' Novice Stakes at Southwell.

The daughter of Dark Angel was a nice second at Ascot on debut and then travelled strongly for much of the way before finishing third in what appeared to be a solid Newbury maiden.

Lothlorien created a big impression on her sole two-year-old start and is sure to attract plenty of interest when reappearing in the Start Racing TV Free Trial Now Fillies' Novice Stakes at Redcar.

Kevin Ryan has a great record for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid and this daughter of Dandy Man recovered from a slow start to edge out odds-on favourite Stormy Impact at Beverley last August.

That pair pulled well clear and the runner-up franked the form by later performing with credit in Group Three company and then scoring at Musselburgh.

Creatif was a comfortable winner at Newcastle on his first start since being gelded and has the scope to follow up in the Racing TV Free Trial Handicap.

The Punchestown Festival could provide two beaten favourites from Cheltenham with the chance for redemption.

Majborough only just failed to overcome some costly jumping errors when a close third to Jango Baie in the Arkle and can return to winning ways in the Barberstown Castle Novice Chase.

In the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle, Teahupoo can turn the tables on Prestbury Park conqueror Bob Olinger.

Gordon Elliott's charge just seemed a touch below par following his usual pre-Cheltenham break but will hopefully be sharper for the defence of this title. - Press Association
