Jack Milner
Trainer Gavin Smith could be heading for another good day as he has a number of top runners in action at Fairview today when they race on the Polytrack.
Heading up his runners is stable star Global Drummer, the East Cape Champion, who looks a lively runner in Race 7, the Peter Stewart Memorial November Stakes over 1400m on the Polytrack.
He is unbeaten in three starts over this course and distance and that should stand Global Drummer in good stead. He is also the best weighted runner.
Current leader in the race to be this season's South African Champion Jockey, Keagan de Melo has been booked to ride.
Up to March this year, Global Drummer had a record of 15 wins from 19 runs but has not been at his best since then and has been beaten in all three races since.
However, he did show some of his old sparkle last time when running in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m and was caught just short of the post to finish 0.25 lengths behind Inherit The Rain.
That, in fact, was his first loss on the Polytrack because until then he had notched up six successive victories on the surface.
The engagement of De Melo gives one the impression that Smith is desperately keen to get the Global View five-year-old gelding back into the No 1 box.
He is the best weighted runner and is well enough drawn at No 5 so back on his favourite surface over a distance that suits, Smith should get the result he wants.
Fly My Flag is another who does well on the Polytrack and with Sharon Kotzen also in fine form, this five-year-old Querari mare stands out as the main challenger. Louis Mxothwa takes the ride.
