Doyen set to raise the bar at Carlisle

February 2024

Doyen Du Bar is going chasing for the first time at Carlisle but it will be disappointing if he fails to oblige in the Daily Charged Up Offers At Rhino.Bet Novices' Limited Handicap Chase on Monday.

Already an eight-year-old, Pauline Robson's charge will be having just the sixth race of his life.

In those fleeting appearances, however, he has shown more than enough ability to suggest he is capable of being pretty decent over fences.

A winner on his racecourse debut in a bumper at this venue, he then had a year off before finishing third under a penalty at Kelso.

He then had another two years off before his hurdles debut back at the Borders track when second and he took a step forward to win next time at Ayr.

Robson then found a weak race for him with a penalty at Kelso and while he was odds-on, he looked in a different league to his rivals, making all for a 17-length win.

It is a strange time of the season to be going chasing, but he is clearly a fragile type and while he is fit and firing connections may as well crack on, because he is surely better than a mark of 126.

Jimmy Moffatt's Lunar Discovery can defy top weight in the Rhino.Bet British Stallion Studs EBF Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

Charlotte Jones gets a great tune out of the seven-year-old and she was only denied a hat-trick by Nicky Henderson's Pawapuri in a Listed event at Haydock on Betfair Chase day.

Raised 10 points for that effort, she has been given plenty of time to get over those exertions but this mud-lover has conditions in her favour and will take all the beating.

Skycutter has been a very good Flat horse and was a decent juvenile hurdler for Phil Kirby, but is now with Dan Skelton after a year out.

He returned with a good effort at Bangor in December and was then not disgraced behind the continually underrated Lowry's Bar at Wincanton.

Still only six, he has proven the ability is still there and while his Flat mark of 98 now looks fanciful, he does appear very well treated off a rating of 115 in the Bet In Play At Rhino.Bet Handicap Hurdle.

Breeze Of Wind is in the form of his life and can make it three on the spin in the Follow Rhino.Bet On Instagram Handicap Chase.

Stuart Coltherd's seven-year-old took six goes to open his account in the pointing sphere and the same again to win under rules, so he is clearly a slow learner.

However, he won by 11 lengths at Hexham and despite a 7-point rise won easily next time at Uttoxeter.

The handicapper has added another 5 points to his task but it should not stop him.

James Owen has Destinado in great heart at present, winning three of his last four.

He faces some decent rivals in the BetUK. Home Of The Acca-Fenwa Handicap at Lingfield, but even a 9lb rise for his latest triumph here might not be enough to stop him.

The Owen Burrows-trained Caustic was second in two bumpers before he had his attentions turned to the Flat.

He was beaten less than three lengths into third at Wolverhampton but blew all chance coming out of the stalls.

It was to his credit he was only beaten around three lengths, so if Burrows has sorted that problem out, he could be a different proposition in the BetUK. It's Where The UK Bets Novice Stakes.

The sharp 1000m at Southwell might be just what Cast No Shadow needs in the BetUK. Its Where The UK Bets Restricted Maiden Stakes.

Beaten a short head over Newcastle's stiff 1000m, he was then fourth in what has turned out to be a decent event back there.

Upped to 1200m at Kempton last time, he was a blatant non-stayer, but at Southwell the 1000m trip is not even quite that, so he can put his speed to good use. - Press Association
