There are two A Stakes on offer on the nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday and it is the second of the two comes up in Race 7 over 1400m.
This is quite a competitive race but it is Justin Snaith-trained Royal Aussie who could pick up the largest slice of the stakes cheque.
For a while this six-year-old son of Royal Mo battled to find his way to the winners’ enclosure and even a few runs in the Eastern Cape failed to change that fact – until last time. Snaith decided to drop him into a race over 1200m and it did the trick. He flew up late under Chad Little to beat Anushka’s World by 0.50 lengths.
Hopefully that win will produce a burst of confidence and another win will not be far behind. As he was weighted to win that race at Fairview, Royal Aussie did not get any penalty for the victory and he comes into this race as the best-weighted runner by at least 1.5kg.
There are two changes for this race. The first is that he was fitted with blinkers for the last race and they have now been removed as he is travelling over slightly further. Secondly, Richard Fourie will be in the irons this time.
Aldo Domeyer, who continues to ride with trademark tactical precision, has some particularly strong chances on the day and his best, and probably the best bet on the card, comes in Race 3 where he rides Candice Bass-trained Got The Look. She finished runner-up last time behind an unbeaten subsequent winner. A repeat of that performance will almost certainly be good enough to see her shed her maiden tag.
The Domeyer-Snaith partnership will be seen to the fore in Race 5 when Greenchoice lines up over 1400m. This Gimmethegreenlight colt has filled the runners-up berth in consecutive recent starts, the latest over 1600m, and he would not be winning out of turn now dropping back slightly to 1400m.
